MV Narasimha Rao loses his MBE medal

“The medal is very dear to me and I am upset. My family too is distressed,†the 62-year-old said.

Hyderabad: Former Test cricketer from Hyderabad M. V. Narasimha Rao has lost his Member of the British Empire (MBE) medallion at a function organised by Aurora College at the Lalitha Kala Thoranam in Hyderabad.

“There were lots of people at the function to which I was invited as chief guest on January 28. I don’t know how the medal got misplaced,” an emotional Bobjee, as Rao is known in Hyderabad cricket circles, said.

“The medal is very dear to me and I am upset. My family too is distressed,” the 62-year-old said, choking. “I appeal to everyone, whoever gets any news of the medal, please inform me.”

He has already registered a missing complaint with the police. In 2011, Bobjee became the first Indian cricketer to be conferred with the MBE by Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution in setting up cricketing structure in Ireland and also for community service through cricket.

Bobjee, who captained Hyderabad to the Ranji Trophy title in 1987, migrated to Ireland where he coached the Irish cricket team before moving back to Hyderabad in 2015 as Director of the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s Academy of Excellence.
