Vatsal Govind gets Kerala Ranji call up

The state U-19 men's captain has been in fine form in the ongoing Cooch Behar Trophy

Vatsal Govind's impressive performance for Kerala U-19 men's side has earned him a call up to the senior team for the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.

As captain of the state U-19 team, Vatsal has scored in excess of 700 runs this season, a 131-ball 68 on Wednesday, against Saurashtra in the Cooch Behar Trophy included.

His triple hundred against Odisha and a 146 against Goa in the tournament grabbed the attention of senior coach Dav Whatmore, who has included the Chalakudy-native in his 15-member squad for Kerala's upcoming fixture against Delhi that will begin at the St. Xavier's College Ground in Thumba on Friday.

Vatsal, who is first-year degree student at Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, was also member of India Green team in the Challenger Trophy.

After a solid start to the Ranji season with two wins in three, Kerala lost their last two matches against Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Kerala will be hoping to return to winning ways on home soil next week.
