Cricket Australia ban man for 3 yrs over racist graffiti against Hashim Amla?
Hobart: Cricket Australia have banned a man for three years after his allegedly racist graffiti directed at South Africa’s Hashim Amla on day one of the second Test in Hobart on Saturday.
It is reported that the man was caught while writing a message on the fence, facing crowd.
Cricket Australia confirmed the incident, saying: "Cricket Australia and Cricket Tasmania can confirm a crowd behaviour issue that occurred on day one of the Commonwealth Bank Test match against South Africa in Hobart."
“Tasmania Police identified the person of interest through CCTV and witnesses in the area. Cricket Australia has issued the person with a three-year ban from any Cricket Australia match, nationally,” added Cricket Australia.
“Cricket Australia takes a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour at any of our matches, which includes racial vilification. Our message to any fan attending a match is that if you display anti-social behaviour you will be removed and risk being banned from any cricket match across Australia, as well as police action being taken,” said Cricket Australia.
This is not the first time when Amla was subjected to a racial abuse by an Australian.
In 2006, during Sri Lanka versus South Africa Test in Colombo, Australian commentator Dean Jones had termed Amla a "terrorist".
After Amla took a catch off Shaun Pollock to dismiss Kumar Sangakkara, Jones was heard saying, "The terrorist has got another wicket."
In the past, former South African speedster Makhaya Ntini had complained about being racially abused in Perth.
