What happens if Champions Trophy semi finals are washed out?

With no reserve dates being kept for the Champions Trophy semi finals, rain washouts could play a huge part in deciding their outcome.

Cardiff: The 2017 ICC Champions Trophy moves into the semi final stage, with England, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh making it through to the last four.

A huge concern for cricket fans all around the world is that the English weather may play spoilsport, robbing the viewers of two potentially cracking semi finals.

Interestingly, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has kept reserve days only for the summit clash of the tournament, and none for the semi finals.

So what happens if one, or god forbid both of the semi finals are washed out due to rain?

The ICC rules state that the team that topped their respective group will go through in case of a rain wash-out.

This means that England will go through to the final, if their semi final against Pakistan gets washed out as they topped Group A. Meanwhile, India will hold the same advantage over Bangladesh in the second semi final, if that match gets washed out as well.

Interestingly, the ICC has included specific rules for the knockout matches, in case they end in a tie. If both the teams end with the same number of runs in either of the semi finals, they would have to play a Super Over.

Although we have seen the Super Over coming into play quite a few times in the Indian Premier League and other T20 internationals, no ODI has ever gone into the Super Overs as of yet.
