Zim vs Ind 2nd ODI: India thrash Zimbabwe to win series

Bowlers shine once again as MS Dhoni-led Indian side take an unassailable lead in the 3-match ODI series.

Harare: MS Dhoni-led Indian side thrashed Zimbabwe by 8 wickets to seal a series win in the three-match series in Harare on Monday. After Yuzvendra Chahal and Co wrapped up Zimbabwe innings for 126, Indian batsmen faced no trouble as they sailed past hosts' totals with 23.1 overs to spare.

Chasing 127-run target, India lost KL Rahul after he shared a 58-run opening stand with Karun Nair. The centurion in the first game, Rahul, scored 33 runs before he got out off Chibhabha.

Nair was joined by Ambati Rayudu in the middle and the duo stitched 67-run stand before the Karnataka batsman was trapped before the wickets by Raza with India just two runs away from win.

Manish Pandey, who walked in to bat at number four, completed the formality as he struck a boundary off the first ball he faced.

Earlier, after electing to bowl, Indian bowlers took off from they had left in the first ODI. While Yuzvendra Chahal scalped three wickets, pacers Barinder Sran and Dhawal Kulkarni had two wickets each.

The young Indian leg-spinner was too hot to handle for Graeme Cremer-led Zimbabwe side.

Barinder Sran struck twice in quick succession as India wasted no time to push Zimbabwe on the backfoot after India elect to bowl.

Hamilton Masakadza was the first to get out after the Zimbabwean failed to time Sran's delivery and was caught at third-man by Jasprit Bumrah.

Sran then trapped PJ Moor before the wickets as the hosts lost their second wicket.

Dhawal Kulkarni joined the party as he sent Chibhabha packing after he was out LBW.

Vusi Sibanda and Sikandar Raza tried to steady the innings with a 67-run partnership. While Sibanda scored the chunk of runs, Raza remained slow yet solid.

Just when Zimbabwe were banking on these two to keep going, Yuzvendra Chahal rocked the boat as he dismissed Raza, Elton Chigumbura and Sibanda in space of two overs.

Jasprit Bumrah, Kulkarni and Axar Patel made sure Zimbabwe's tail did not last long as the MS Dhoni-led side wrapped up the innings for the paltry total of 126.

The toss was delayed by ten minutes due to chilly weather and wet conditions on the ground.

While Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball, KL Rahul’s ton on ODI debut made him the first Indian cricketer to achieve such feat. India, who restricted the hometeam for 168, went on to win the first game by 9 wickets.
