Virat Kohli's ability to learn quickly makes him a great Test batsman
Mumbai: Virat Kohli received high praise from India star batsman Yuvraj Singh, who believes that the India captain has grasped the longer version of the game much faster than the rest of the Indian cricketers.
The southpaw believes that Kohli’s ability to read the game so early has taken him to a much higher level than everyone else.
“Virat Kohli is someone who has always raised the bar,” Yuvraj said to Wisden. “He is the next generation player in raising the bar higher.
“He is definitely the most exceptional batsman we have in the times now. He is someone who changed very quickly and adapted to Test cricket quicker than me,” said Yuvraj. “What we learnt in a span of 10 years, he learnt in a span of 3-4 years.”
Kohli has been on tremendous form this season, scoring 1,246 runs from 11 Tests, at an average of 69.22. Although his form in the series against Australia has been poor (he has a paltry average of 10 from the first two Tests against Australia), Kohli has led India from the front in the rest of the long home season, being the highest scorer so far.
Despite a couple of poor performances against the Aussies, it would be interesting to see how the India skipper bounces back against them in this fiercely-contested Test series.
