HCA elections: Last date for withdrawals extended
Hyderabad: Thanks to piling confusion amid a clutch of clarifications the last date for withdrawal of nominations for elections to the Hyderabad Cricket Association has been extended by a day to Friday noon.
About 60 had submitted their candidature for six elected posts on the Apex Council. Many have backed out, yet explanations are being sought by various members with regard to eligibility.
The final list of contestants will likely be out late afternoon on Friday, making battle lines clear for the January 17 polls even as the High Court has stayed announcement of results in view of the petition filed by the ruling group which has challenged the poll process.
The mandatory cooling off period (laid down by the Lodha panel) rules out current office-bearers from running for top posts but the eligibility of a sitting office-bearer to run for the lone Councillor’s post (estimated equivalent of an Executive Committee member) is ambiguous. These legal twists — coupled with a few more turns that may follow — queer the pitch ahead of the all-out contests.
