Hyderabad: Akshan Rao scored a century to help Karnataka take the first innings lead against Hyderabad in their third round match of the Vijay Merchant Trophy Under 16 cricket league being played at the ECIL grounds here on Monday.
Akshan slammed 14 boundaries in his 182-ball 103 before being run out. He was well supported by R. Smaran who contributed 76 as Karnataka (271 for 7) overhauled Hyderabad’s 257 on the second day.
Earlier, resuming his innings at 81, Hyderabad’s No.10 batsman Ilyaan Sathani completed his century. The left-hander scored 18 fours and a six before falling to a catch by rival centurion Akshan for an identical score of 103.
In another match, Kerala were reeling at 71 for 5 in their second innings, still 144 short of Andhra’s first innings total of 353 for 9 declared with a day’s play left.
In the other match, Tamil Nadu had replied to Goa’s 266 with 127 for 1 through B. Sai Sudarshan (73 batting) and Lakshay Jain (54) when stumps were drawn for the day.
