Hyderabad: In ruins not long ago, the Hyderabad Cricket Association is rebuilding itself, thanks to the efforts of VVS Laxman and Mohammad Azharuddin. Having brought the two warring factions in the HCA on the same page, the two former Test cricketers on Tuesday recommended selectors and coaches for various teams.
Former Test cricketer Rajani Venugopal and Vidya Yadav were the women members on the players’ steering committee that prevailed upon the groups led by secretary T. Shesh Narayan and vice-president & acting president Anil Kumar to bury their differences in the interest of players.
Undoubtedly, everyone associated with the game in Hyderabad — especially the players — are heaving a sigh of relief. Parallel teams and coaching camps for tournaments had put them on a sticky wicket. They can play freely now.
Is this the first step in former cricketers taking over the running of the game? Looks like. Hyderabad could set the tone for the rest of the associations in the country to follow.
Former players Noel David and Vanka Prathap have been named chairmen of the senior and junior selection committees respectively.
N. Arjun Yadav will coach the senior side and will be assisted by N. P. Singh (bowling coach) and T. Dilip (fielding coach)....
