Virat Kohli for IPL-style playoffs

India skipper Kohli expects the ICC to consider changing the format for future tournaments.

BIRMINGHAM: If it had been in the IPL, Virat Kohli’s team would have got another shot at entering the final. Those who finish in top two of the IPL league stage get two chances to book their spot in the summit clash.

India who topped the league stage were eliminated from the World Cup on Wednesday after suffering an 18-run defeat at the hands of Kane Williamson’s New Zealand at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday night.

India skipper Kohli expects the ICC to consider changing the format for future tournaments. “If topping the table means anything, I think, these things can come into consideration, looking at the magnitude of this tournament. That is a really valid point. You never know when that is going to be implemented,” said Kohli.

Kohli, however, said the current semifinal format has its own charm.

“That’s the challenge and different kind of fun of these games as well that you have to be precise. It doesn’t matter what you have done before that. It’s a fresh day, fresh start, and if you are not good enough, you go home,” added Kohli.
