I don't take anything for granted, says Shashank Manohar

Newly-elected ICC chairman says he gave consent for the post on Wednesday.

Mumbai: The consent for the ICC chairman post was obtained by Mr Adnan Zaidi, the ICC Audit Committee chairman on Wednesday, according to Shashank Manohar.

The newly-elected independent chairman of ICC confirmed: “He did call me on Wednesday and I accepted it.”

The voluntary nomination process for the post was over on Tuesday and since there were no other nominations, the official had all the time in the world to declare him the chairman.

"I won’t say it was a forgone conclusion. I don't decide or take anything for granted. I accept the assignment as and when it comes and I took it when it came to me,” said Manohar.

"Yes, I have already begun my day as a chairman", he added.

"I am enjoying my holiday in Mahabaleshwar with my family and I don't wish to give an in-depth interview at this point of time. Please excuse me,” he added.

Having accepted the decorative post, Manohar may curtail his vacation plan and one shouldn’t be surprised if his wife buys a new sim card for her phone with him retaining her current one.

Interestingly, Manohar's 82-year-old father, VR Manohar, also a lawyer in his time, has been using a cell phone. His brother, Sunil (also lawyer) too has one. Adwait, the lawyer son of Shashank has not been using it like his father, it is learnt here.
