Windies skipper hopes to get fit

However, Holder did practice batting and bowling at the team's nets session on Wednesday.

Hyderabad: Jason Holder was not too sure of making the second game, having missed the first Test due to an ankle injury. The visiting captain said a call will be made on Thursday. “I am hoping to get in shape. The main thing is to sustain for five days. I don’t want to rush and leave the field midway — that will put a lot of pressure on other bowlers,” he said.

However, Holder did practice batting and bowling at the team’s nets session on Wednesday.

Holder said the Windies bowlers too needed to buck up. “When there is no assist from the pitch or no carry, we need to contain batsmen without conceding easy runs and make it hard for them so that the spinners can later come in and use it to pick wickets. But our bowlers were leaking runs, going at a run rate of four to five or even six per over. I spoke to Shannon (Gabriel) and Keemo (Paul) at the nets about it,” he said.

He did not make too much of the explosive Chris Gayle’s absence in the one-dayers. “I don’t think it will give any negative signals. He understands that he is at his back end of the career. He is very much part of our World Cup schemes.”
