India’s dreams of lifting the World Cup got shattered on Wednesday as they lost to New Zealand by 18-runs in their semi-final.
Needing 240 to win, India’s top-order got rattled out quickly for five as Matt Henry scalped the crucial wicket of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul while Trent Boult trapped Virat Kohli for one.
After all three got out for one, Rishabh Pant was sent ahead of experienced Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni to rebuild India’s innings. Rishabh was beginning to score runs easily, but as soon as Mitchell Santner was introduced, Pant struggled to find runs and eventually in the end he got frustrated and threw his wicket away to leave India tottering at 71/5. Pant returned back to pavilion after scoring 32 from 55 balls
Soon after Pant’s dismissal, an infuriated Kohli headed towards the balcony and said something to Ravi Shastri in a fit of rage. Shastri was sitting at the balcony during that time.
