New Delhi: Shashank Manohar will complete his tenure, due to end in June 2018, as the International Cricket Council’s chairman, the game’s governing body said on Wednesday.
Manohar resigned from his post citing “personal reasons” in March. But he was coaxed to stay on by its directors until the board met in April to vote on a series of major reforms.
“The International Cricket Council today confirmed Shashank Manohar will continue to function as the Independent Chairman of ICC until the end of his elected term which is June 2018,” the council said in a statement.
Manohar has spearheaded a restructuring of the body aimed at curbing the dominance of cricket’s wealthiest nations — India, Australia and England — since being appointed the ICC boss last year.
His efforts came to fruition last month when the ICC endorsed a plan to more equitably share revenue among all members — a decision that cost India a large chunk of its funding.
