Bengal cricketer claims 6 wickets, concedes no runs
Mumbai: Any other bowler who has grabbed six wickets without conceding any run would repent for not being a hat-trick achiever. However, Writtick Chatterjee, the 24-year-old right arm off-spinner, thinks otherwise.
"I have no regrets. That type of thoughts (not being a hat-trick bowler) didn't come to my mind even after the match," he said from Kolkata.
Bengal off-spinner Chatterjee achieved a rare feat, claiming six wickets without conceding any run to hand his team, Bhowanipore Club, a 253-run win over Mohammedan Sporting in a Cricket Association of Bengal First Division two-day playoff match on Saturday.
"It was a great feeling yesterday. It was like a dream coming true."
"If your talk about hat-trick, I took two wickets in the last match off two successive deliveries (and seven in the match) and the first with the very first ball of my over in this match on Saturday. I know it can not be called as a hat-trick because three wickets in three balls are taken in two different matches."
"On Saturday I just tried to bowl on the weak points of the batsmen and most of the time I bowled on stumps."
Writtick Chatterjee's first over yielded wickets in every alternate balls.
"I was focusing only on how we can win this match. Being the captain of the side I did not think on any other aspects," he added.
"My parents (dad is a school teacher and mother is a housewife) were not at the ground but after the match told me to aim higher goals in the game. They reminded me to look ahead and concentrate and dream of playing for the country."
Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers are his favorite batsmen and former England spinner Graeme Swann is his idol.
"My next aim is to keep performing in this fashion in Ranji Trophy and thereafter earning a place in the Indian team," he signed off.
