India's strength and conditioning coach opts for a break

Anand Date will take over from Shankar Basu as Team India's strength and conditioning coach during England ODIs and T20s.

Mumbai: Indian cricket team's strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu has been replaced by Anand Date for the upcoming limited overs series against England starting January 15.

In a press release, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said, "BCCI would like to inform that Team India strength and conditioning trainer Mr. Shankar Basu has opted for a break from the Paytm ODI Trophy - 2017, Paytm T20I Trophy - 2017 against England and one off Paytm Test match to be played against Bangladesh in February 2017 for personal reasons."

"Mr. Anand Date has been appointed the strength and conditioning trainer of the Indian team for these series," added the media release.

Apart from the England series, Date will also remain as Team India's conditioning coach for the lone Test match against Bangladesh in February.

Highly rated by India captain Virat Kohli, Basu joined the team in June 2015 and was instrumental in introducing various new training methods.
