Mumbai: Australian batsman Steve Smith probably played some of the best knocks of his life in the ongoing Ashes series. His performance has been widely praised all over the world. But, throughout the series, he has been taunted and booed for his role in the 2018 sandpaper-gate scandal.

Steve Smith scored an astonishing 671 runs at an average of 134.2, including three hundreds and a double hundred, despite missing England's one-wicket win in the third Test at Headingley with a concussion.

On Sunday, after winning the fourth Ashes Test, the Australian players were in a jubilant mood as they had retained the Ashes. Their celebrations began on the ground itself after the ceremony. World’s number one Test batsman, Steve Smith, was also in a celebratory mood. In an apparent bid to mock England’s tail-ending batsman, Jack Leach, Smith donned a pair of glasses. It may be because of Leach’s heroics in the third Ashes Test where he stood at one end and allowed Ben Stokes to dictate the result.

This celebration of Steve Smith received mixed reactions on social media as some people stated that his action was warranted as he has facing criticism throughout the series even after performing splendidly. Others say that he shouldn’t have done such a thing after personally going through a scandal.
