Michael Clarke wants Virat Kohli, Steve Smith to get over the DRS controversy

Michael Clarke said Australia skipper Steve Smith should seek support of David Warner and coach Darren Lehmann.

Mumbai: Former Australia skipper Michael Clarke has requested both India and Australia to move on from the Decision Review System (DRS) controversy.

The controversy erupted on the fourth day of the second Border-Gavaskar Test at Bengaluru, when Steve Smith – who was given out LBW off Umesh Yadav’s bowling – was spotted looking up towards the Australian dressing room, while discussing whether to review the decision.

The incident led to heated exchange between India captain Virat Kohli and Smith. The Aussie captain later described the incident as brain fade, while Kohli alleged Australian batsmen of seeking dressing room help even before the incident took place.

Clarke has requested both the captains to get over the controversy.

"I want India and Australia to butt heads in the field and play hard cricket. I am saying let's just play the game in the right spirit," Clarke told India Today.

Clarke also said Smith should seek support of David Warner and coach Darren Lehmann.

"I think there's no doubt all eyes will be on Steve Smith in the next Test match. Probably the first time the spotlight has been on him individually.

"Smith needs to use people like David Warner and Darren Lehmann if he needs to seek support. It's the first time Smith has had to face criticism like this from the Indian media.

"As an Australian captain, this is Steve Smith's time to stand up. He must be thinking right now, "I am going to be a double hundred in Ranchi."
