Yograj Singh targets MS Dhoni again as Yuvraj Singh makes a comeback to Team India
Mumbai: Yograj Singh, former India cricketer and father of Team India’s World Cup-winning hero Yuvraj Singh, has once again targeted MS Dhoni after Yuvraj made a comeback to India’s ODI squad for the first time since December 2013.
While Yuvraj did feature in India’s T20 side and a part of the team that played T20s in Australia, Asia Cup and ICC World Twenty20 2016, the ODI series against Eoin Morgan-led unit will be his first outing in the 50-overs cricket after three years.
Although Yuvraj struggled with form on his comeback to Team India, Yograj has often blamed Dhoni, who recently stepped down as India’s limited-overs skipper, for Yuvraj’s exclusion from the Indian team.
According to a leading Marathi daily, Yograj, after Yuvraj was named in the Virat Kohli-led squad for England series, said that his son’s comeback to the side has a lot to do with Dhoni’s departure from the helm. Yograj said that he predicted two years ago that Yuvraj will make a comeback to Team India as soon as Dhoni steps down from India’s captaincy and he is glad that his prediction was bang on target.
Yuvraj, who had always maintained that he and Dhoni share a good rapport and he always enjoyed playing under Captain Cool's leadership, had lauded Dhoni on Monday.
"He is been extremely good captain for India. We won 2011 World Cup, 2007 (ICC World Twenty20), Champions Trophy (in 2013) under him. So, they are really big achievements. We were number 1 Test team under him. So, I think, these are amazing achievements and I am not sure how many captains have that," Yuvraj said in an interview to BCCI.tv.
"It will be like playing in the old days when we started. Obviously, I started much before him and then he came. I think we both were very fearless when we used to play together. So, hopefully we can do the same together in the upcoming series," added Yuvraj.
However, Yograj does not share a cordial relationship with Dhoni. Yograj had threatened to slap Dhoni after Yuvraj was not picked in India’s squad for ICC World Cup 2015.
"I would have slapped Dhoni, had I been a journalist. There was a time when he was nothing but today he sits before the media and rips them apart. He laughs at media people who gave him so much hype and laughs at those who cheer him when he scores runs,” Yograj had said.
Yograj had also compared Dhoni with Raavana.
The former India cricketer-turned-actor once again took on Dhoni after India defeated arch-rival Pakistan in the World Cup Down Under.
While Yuvraj was ecstatic following his comeback to the side and spoke highly of Dhoni, Yograj was trolled on the social media after Dhoni relinquish the captaincy.
