Video: Virat Kohli gives a cheeky grin as Bangladesh waste a review against India

Virat Kohli could not hold back his smile as Bangladesh opted for DRS for LBW decision when the ball had hit his bat.

Hyderabad: We have all seen some perplexing decisions taken by the umpires in the world of cricket.

Thankfully for the betterment of the game, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced the Decision Review System (DRS), to iron-out the umpiring mistakes in the game.

At the end of the day however, it all comes down to how smartly the teams and the players use the number of reviews allotted to them.

A perfect example of how not to call for a review was given by Bangladesh on Thursday, during their one-off Test against India in Hyderabad.

The Bangladesh players unanimously went up in appeal (for an lbw), as Kohli played a harmless defensive shot off spinner Taijul Islam’s bowling, taking commentator and former Team India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar by surprise.

Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim even signalled for the decision to be reviewed.

The whole thing turned out to be a bit of a farce in the end however, as the review revealed that the ball made absolutely no contact with Kohli’s pads. In fact, it had struck the India skipper’s bat in the sweet spot.

Kohli, who notched up his 16th century of his Test career, helped put his side in a commanding position at the end of Day 1, with the score at 356 for the loss of three wickets.
