Hyderabad: Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara on Thursday broke a 52-year-old Indian batting record during first day’s play of the one-off Test against Bangaldesh, in Hyderabad.

The batsman continued his impressive form with the bat as he struck a solid looking 83 before getting out. With his knock, Pujara broke the long standing record of most runs by a batsman in an Indian first-class season.

Pujara, who has now scored 1,605 runs in 21 innings (13 matches) in the 2016-17 season broke the record of Chandu Borde, who had scored 1,604 runs in 28 innings (21 matches) in the 1964-65 season, the record stood for 52 long years.
