Knockout cricket tournament: Shareef Zubair snares seven
Shareef Zubair led the pack of bowlers who ran riot in their respective matches in the Ghulam Ali ‘A’ Division one-day knockout cricket tournament organised by the Hyderabad Cricket Association in the city.
Zubair scalped seven wickets as Boys Town thrashed Vijay Hanuman by 106 runs.
Meanwhile, Uday Kiran, Syed Uzair and Srikanth bagged five wickets each in the same match.
Elsewhere, Abrar’s five-for was in vain as Red Hills lost to PNYCC by 25 runs.
Taking first strike, Boys Town scored a respectable 237 in 44.2 overs against Vijay Hanuman. Syed Luqman Faheem top-scored with 83. However, Zubair ensured Vijay Hanuman’s reply never got off the ground with seven brilliant wickets, giving away just 40 runs. Vijay Hanuman were put out of their misery on 131 in the 30th over.
In another match, Uday bowled a brilliant spell, picking 5 for 5 as XI Masters dismissed Young Masters for just 120 runs.
Any hopes of an easy win for XI Masters quickly went up in smoke once Uzair and Srikanth got into the act. Uzair picked 5 for 20 while Srikanth snared 5 for 37 as XI Masters were ignominiously bundled out for just 87 — 33 runs short of the target.
An allround show by Abrar was for nothing as he was badly let down by his Red Hills teammates.
Abrar took 5 for 30 as Red Hills restricted PNYCC to just 204 runs in 37.1 overs. Zakir Hussain top-scored for PNYCC with 81.
In reply, Abrar was the star once again, scoring 76 runs. The rest of the batting line-up never quite showed up as Faheem ripped through the batting order with 4 for 44. Red Hills’ chase ended on 179 runs in the 35th over of the match.
