Could not be prouder, says Keaton Jennings after scoring century on debut
Mumbai: It’s never easy to replace someone who is dubbed as the find of the series, but Keaton Jennings was asked to do the same.
Jennings was inducted in the England team for the fourth test against India in Mumbai as a replacement for the fantastic Haseeb Hameed. The teenager batsman had to sit out because of a finger injury.
The visiting team, however, didn’t miss Hameed too much in Mumbai as Jennings batted beautifully to score a century on his debut. The opener made a confident 112 on the first day.
The batsman was delighted with his effort.
"It has been a really special couple of months, probably even more special last 72 hours. Could not be happier, could not be prouder,” said the opener.
“I got up at 5 in the morning thinking I missed the bus. Just had a chat with my uncle before coming here.”
The batsman revealed that he didn’t go through any batting videos to prepare himself for the Mumbai Test; instead he had a chat with the senior batsmen.
“No video, I prefer to chat with other batters who have been here. Just had a chat with (Alastair) Cook, (Joe) Root and (Ben) Stokes,” added Jennings.
Jennings also praised India Test skipper Virat Kohli for the way he marshalled his troops.
“Virat's captaincy was superb. Those little things he did, bowlers taking wickets. Just when we thought, we were on top, they fought back really well,” said the batsman.
