Video: Virat Kohli almost knocks umpire's head off as he smashes Lasith Malinga for 4

Virat Kohli comfortably led India to a seven-wicket over Sri Lanka in the one-off T20.

Colombo: Team India captain Virat Kohli is known for his aggressive and explosive style of batting, and he sure did showcase that in the recently-concluded limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. Having scored two centuries in the ODI series, Kohli had a Sri Lankan tour to remember, leading India to a 9-0 series record win over the hosts in all formats.

During the one-off T20 against Sri Lanka on Wednesday, the Delhi batsman’s straight drive down the ground off Lasith Malinga's ball forced umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge to duck to the ground as Kohli powered the ball to a four.

Kohli comfortably led India to a seven-wicket over Sri Lanka in the one-off T20, finishing the Sri Lankan tour on an unbeaten note.

Here’s a video of Kohli playing a straight drive, that led the umpire to duck on the field.

In 2011, during an ODI between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, Zimbabwe bowler Keegan Meth was hit hard by the ball on the mouth, courtesy a straight drive from one of the Bangladeshi batsmen. As a result, he lost many teeth and it also resulted in a bloodbath in between the pitch.

On-field umpires, too, have been protecting themselves from similar events, by putting on protective shields to avoid any physical damage.

Virat Kohli and co will kick off their home season as they meet Australia in the first of the five ODIs at Chennai on September 17.
