Lack of oppurtunities for Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravichandran Ashwin in County Cricket
Nottingham: The much-awaited clash between Cheteshwar Pujara, representing Nottinghamshire, and Ravichandran Ashwin, of Worcestershire in the County Championship second division ended in a disappointment as both of them, failed to produce good performances in the ongoing four-day match in Nottingham on Friday.
While Pujara aggregated 32 runs in his two innings, Ashwin could not get a wicket in Nottinghamshire’s second innings, the only innings he bowled.
Instead, it was Worcestershire’s pacers which scalped wickets in both of their opponent’s innings. Even in the first innings, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder managed to score just 19 runs, whereas, he is yet to bat in Worcestershire’s second innings.
While the 29-year-old Saurashtra batsman re-signed for Nottinghamshire for the last four matches of the season, Ashwin signed up for Worcestershire in mid-August, taking three wickets on his County debut.
Chasing a target of 226 with one day to play, Worcestershire are comfortably placed on 123-2. While Nottinghamshire play Northamptonshire and Sussex in their final two games of the County season, Worcestershire will meet Leicestershire and Durham in their final two games.
