Tight security for IPL matches in Visakhapatnam

Vizag will host six events this season.

Visakhapatnam: The Vizag police will deploy 1,000 police personnel to oversee the security arrangements during the IPL-2016 matches, scheduled at Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA stadium at PM Palem from May 8.

A total of 42 CCTV cameras have been installed at various places in and around the stadium to monitor the movement of vehicles and visitors.

DCP (Crimes) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy said Vizag will be hosting six matches of IPL in this season from May 8 and as per the schedule, Mumbai Indians (MI) will clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 8 (4 p.m.), Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) will clash with SRH on May 10 (8 p.m.). MI will play with Kings XI-Punjab on May 13 (8 p.m.), MI will clash with DD on May 15 (8 p.m.), RPS will play with DD on May 17 (8 p.m.) and RPS will play with KXIP on May 21 (4 p.m.).

Two command and control rooms have been set up on the cricket ground to monitor the footage collected by CCTV cameras and the traffic police have made arrangements for parking of vehicles at the designated parking stands around the stadium and on private lands, he added.

The police appealed to the spectators not to carry fire crackers, fire arms, glass bottles, alcohol, drugs, sticks and metal rods inside the stadium. The gates will be opened two hours before the match.
