ICC Test rankings: Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin joint No. 1, Virat Kohli drops to No. 3

Ravindra Jadeja has moved to the top spot in the ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers for the first in his career.

Dubai: India’s Ravindra Jadeja has moved to the top spot in the ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers for the first in his career, thanks to his six-wicket haul in the first innings of the second Test against Australia in Bengaluru. The left-arm spinner now shares the No. 1 Test bowler sport with Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ashwin and Jadeja have become the first pair of spinners to jointly share the top spot in the rankings. Dale Steyn and Muttiah Muralitharan in 2008 were the last bowling pair to be jointly top-ranked.

Australian spinner Natahan Lyon who picked up eight wickets in the match has moved up two places to 16th spot while the hero of the first match, Steve O’Keefe has gained one place to reach a career-best 28th spot.

Australia skipper Steve Smith has retained the No. 1 spot in the ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen, while India captain Virat Kohli has dropped to the third position after making only 27 runs in the match. England Test skipper Joe Root moved ahead of Kohli to the second position.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s 92 in the second innings of the Bengaluru Test has lifted him up five places to the sixth rank while Ajinkya Rahane has gained two places to reach the 15th spot. Lokesh Rahul, who scored fifties in both innings of the match has jumped up 23 places to 23rd rank.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has moved ahead of Ashwin to the top spot in the list of all-rounders.
