Here are the 7 records that Virat Kohli broke during India-Sri Lanka Colombo Twenty20

India eased to a seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the one-off T20, completing a 9-0 record win over the hosts across all formats.

Colombo: Team India captain Virat Kohli on Wednesday broke numerous records during his match-winning knock of 82 against Sri Lanka in the one-off T20 here.

By crossing 15,000 runs in international cricket, Kohli became the only cricketer to average more than 50 while crossing the mark.

Kohli now has the most number of 50-plus scores in T20 internationals, with 17 to his name. No player has more than 17 50-plus scores, with Kohli topping that table, too. The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain also became the 33rd player to cross 15,000 international runs.

Kohli also become the fastest player to get to 15,000 international runs in just 333 innings, and went past Hashim Amla, who took 336 innings to reach the landmark.

The Delhi batsman also created the record of scoring most runs while chasing in T20 international cricket (1007 runs),surpassing New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum , who is now behind him with 1006 runs.

The numbers game does not end there. Virat Kohli, who played his 50th T20 interanational on Wednesday,is now the third most run-scorer in T20 internationals ( 1830 runs), with Brendon McCullum (2140) and Tilakaratne Dilshan (1889) in first and second spot respectively.

While on 71 on Wednesday, the skipper surpassed Kiwi batsman Martin Guptill’s tally of 1806 runs to become the third highest run-scorer in T20s.

The 28-year-old’s score of 82 also became the third highest score by captains while chasing in the shortest format of the game, behind Steve Smith (90), and Chris Gayle (88).

India on Wednesday eased to a seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the one-off T20 here, thereby completing a 9-0 record win over the Island team across all formats. India also became the first side to whitewash a home side across all three formats, after the historic win over the Islanders.

The Men in Blue will head back home, where they will kick-off their home season, with the first of the five ODIs against Australia at Chennai on September 17. The Odis will be followed by three T20s against Steven Smith’s side, which concludes on October 13.
