South Central Railway women champs
Hyderabad: South Central Railway women’s cricket team emerged champions in the 32nd All India Railway Championship played at the RCF ground in Kapurthala, Punjab.
In the final, SCR scored an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Central Railway.
Batting first, Central were all out for a mere 140 as S. Asha Joy (3 for 32), T. Shani (2 for 19) and Shivangi Raj (2 for 27) bowled well. Shweta Jadhav who made 43 and Neha Badwaik (31 not out) were the only batswomen of note.
In reply, SCR went guns blazing as opener S. Meghana scored an unbeaten 86 that was studded with 11 boundaries and a six.
V. Sneha Deepthi contributed 25 while Asha Joy chipped in 20 to help their side over the line comfortably, with seven overs to spare.
The team is coached by Hyderabad’s RSR Murthy.
Mithali Raj, Arundhati Reddy and R. Kalpana did not play the final as they left for Jaipur for the IPL Women’s T20 Challenge.
Earlier in the semifinal, SCR got the better of Western Railway by 17 runs. Batting first, SCR made 165 for 9 in 50 overs before packing Western Railway for 148 in 49.2 overs.
