Bengaluru: For the third day running, runs were at a premium as the second Test turned into an intense battle of survival. It’s unlike anything scene at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in a long while, but this game has tested the application and patience of batsmen like never before. Test of skill? Yes. Test of pedigree? Definitely.
India batting coach Sanjay Bangar felt that the Test hung in balance. A marked difference, given the way India were down after the first two days. “(I) cannot put a number to the runs that are required or the overs that are required or set any target because we know that there are two really competitive sides fighting to get that advantage,” said Bangar after the intense third day’s play.
Conclusive evidence or not?
On the big dismissal of Virat Kohli adjudged lbw to Josh Hazlewood by umpire Nigel Llong and upheld by the TV umpire Richard Kettleborough, the batting coach explained: “We all were bit surprised by the call. Was there conclusive evidence to make that call or there wasn’t a conclusive evidence? That is something the match referee will look into and have a chat about it. We are new to DRS and the rules have tweaked a bit. It is very much the umpire’s call which becomes really crucial.”
