Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni's relationship good for Indian cricket: Michael Clarke

Not long after Dhoni's retirement from Test cricket, Michael Clarke also hung up his pads, after the 2015 Ashes.

Mumbai: Former Australai skipper Michael Clarke believes that Mahendra Singh Dhoni can still continue playing for the Team India limited overs side, despite the latter having relinquished his captaincy, earlier this week.

Dhoni, who had retired from Test cricket two years back, was still continuing as the captain of India’s limited overs sides. Not long after Dhoni’s retirement from Test cricket, Michael Clarke also hung up his pads, after the 2015 Ashes.

Clarke, who enjoyed a healthy rivalry against Dhoni during his playing days, feels that the 35-year-old still has it in him to continue playing for India.

“I think he will be fine. These are things Dhoni would have thought about while making the decision,” Clarke was quoted as saying to News18. “Again I think MS Dhoni has the right to keep playing till he wants too because he is good enough.

“He can still score runs for India, he is a fantastic keeper. The good thing for India is that Kohli and Dhoni get on very well, their relationship is fantastic and it will be great for Indian cricket,” he said.

Clarke believes that Dhoni can still continue to aid Kohli in the leadership role despite having stepped down from captaincy.

“Virat is an absolute superstar as well and has done a tremendous job with the Test team. I loved playing against MS Dhoni, he is an absolute gentleman and I still feel he has got a lot to offer as a player,” said Clarke. “His leadership even without being the captain I feel will be very useful for India. I hope he continues to play, I still love watching him play.”
