Mahendra Singh Dhoni has a big heart: Virender Sehwag

Dhoni stepped down from ODI and T20I captaincy a little more than a week ahead of the ODI and T20I series against England.

Mumbai: Former India batsman Virender Sehwag has heaped praises on Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who stepped down as the captain of the Indian limited overs side, earlier this week.

Dhoni stepped down from ODI and T20I captaincy a little more than a week ahead of the ODI and T20I series against England.

Sehwag was all praises for the former India captain, saying that although his cricketing acumen is well known, it is Dhoni the human being, that really caught his heart.

“His skills on the field as a player and captain are known to everyone, but he is an even better human being with a big heart,” Sehwag wrote on Cricket Talkies.

Sehwag, who is also known as ‘Viru’, went on to make an interesting observation about Dhoni’s last ODI as the captain of Team India, at Vizag.

“It’s also fitting that he and the team played with names of their mother on the India jersey in the last match he captained for India,” Sehwag wrote. “I wish him all the best in everything that he does.”

However, the maverick former Team India opener was three days late with his tribute to Dhoni, who had stepped down on Wednesday, January 4. Sehwag went on to explain why he was late with his tribute.

“7 is his favourite number and I thought it was apt to wish him the very best going forward as a wicket-keeper batsman on the 7th,” wrote Sehwag.
