Indian players satisfied with DRS, says Anil Kumble
Mumbai: India coach Anil Kumble said that Team India is very satisfied with outcomes from Decision Review System (DRS) in the series so far. Kumble was speaking at the eve of the fourth India-England Test in Mumbai
“It (DRS) has been really good, it has been an experiment that has been happening in the series, but overall players have been very satisfied with the outcome,” said Kumble.
India have been forced to change their opening combination multiple times in the series against England. There has been concern regarding frequent injuries sustained by Indian players of late. The coach, however, didn’t seem too concerned about the injuries.
“It’s not in our control; injuries are part and parcel of the game. Unfortunately (KL) Rahul got hit while he was fielding in Vizag and that’s how he got the injury. Most of the injuries have been cricket related.
“Ideally yes, that’s (Murali Vijay and Rahul) the settled opening pair that you would want, but in the circumstances we have done really well. Parthiv came in the last game and did a fantastic job at the top.”
When asked about the failure of English batsmen in the series, Kumble credited Indian bowlers for their performance.
“It’s a tribute to our bowling attack and the field placements that Virat (Kohli) has set as the team captain. If you look at last three, all five bowlers have had a significant role in all the matches.”
The coach also heaped praise on the pace duo Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav.
“The two fast bowlers have been brilliant right throughout since the time I have comeback in as a coach. It’s not just two of them, but Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) and Ishant (Sharma), all of them have contributed significantly. And to have some one like them sitting out is a credit to how Umesh and Shami have bowled.
“The pacers have been great even in their third and fourth spell. That’s something that I am really pleased about.”
