India A eye One-Day series against New Zealand A team
Visakhapatnam: Buoyed by overwhelming victories in two four day matches against the New Zealand A team in Vijayawada, a resilient India A team would look to continue the momentum in the five match One-Day series.
The tourists expect to shrug off their embarrassing defeats with a better performance in the batting paradise that is the wicket in the city.
The ODI series will start with Friday’s match at the Dr YSR Rajasekhar Reddy ACA-VDDA stadium here. Shreyas Iyer will lead India A in the first three one-dayers, while Rishabh Pant will be the captain for the remaining two.
“We would look to continue our rich vein of form in the One-Day matches. Our team is in good shape and performed excellently against South Africa A and in the four-day matches against New Zealand A,” said India A team captain Shreyas Iyer.
He said the team did not get to practice on Thursday due to the heavy rain. “We are expecting that the Vizag pitch would be a batting beauty and will hold a run feast,” he said.
Iyer said that everyone had played in different formats of the game and were enjoying what they are doing.
Stating that one-day match was a different format, New Zealand A skipper Henry Nicholls said the visitors would give a tough fight.
“We are hoping to beat a better one-day side and still feel we are a strong competitive side,” he said. “Our team has slowly adjusted to the humid weather and we are looking forward to a tough series,” he said.
