Sachin Tendulkar praises Steve Smith, says this after he slams 211 in 4th Ashes Test

Mumbai: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar heaped praise on Australia’s Steve Smith and stated that there’s something within the 30-year-old and that thing makes him quite unique from others in the longest format of the game, after Smith slammed a double hundred which put Australia on top of the game in the current fourth Ashes Test.

Smith, who was banned for 12 months, hardly needed two or three matches to show why he is best batsman in the Test format. During the first and second Test matches, Smith registered 378 runs, including two centuries and one half century.

And, with the recent knock of 211, the southpaw forced the maestro to go all praise for the Australian cricketer.

After getting hit by a deadly Jofra Archer’s bouncer that forced him to sit out of the third match, Smith came back stronger and stunned the 24-year-old Barbados born bowler and his side to score 211, which put Australia on top at the end of day two.

Smith’s 211 ensured Australia went past 450 to post a daunting first innings total of 497/8. En route to his 200, the southpaw also broke multiple records.

After scoring his 26^th Test ton, Steve Smith scripted history as he crossed legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar in an epic list topped by Australia’s greatest batsman Sir Don Bradman.

With his 26^th century, the southpaw became the second fastest cricketer in the history of the sport to hit 26 centuries in the longest format.

Smith toppled Tendulkar to reach the second spot. Smith achieved the feat in 121 innings while the ‘Master Blaster’ reached this milestone in 136 innings.

However, Tendulkar felt very spellbound by Smith’s batting process that he went on to explain the Aussie batsman’s process of batting on twitter. Tendulkar tweeted, “COMPLICATED TECHNIQUE but an ORGANIZED MINDSET is what sets Steve Smith apart. Incredible comeback.”

After Australia lost openers Marcus Harris and David Warner, Steve Smith’s concussion substitute Marnus Labuschagne and in-form Smith steadied the innings as the duo put up a partnership of 116 runs at the end of day one.

While, Labuschagne went back to the pavilion after scoring 67, Smith on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 65.

At the end of day one, Australia was 170/3. Luck was on the side of Smith as Jofra dropped a catch off his own bowling, when the Test match specialist batsman was on 65. Since then the 30-year-old went to score eight continuous 50s.

Smith slammed his 26th Test century in 160 balls. Smith continued to dominate England after he and Tim Paine put on another crucial 146-runs stand with Captain Tim Paine who also scored an important 58.

After Smith’s double ton, his runs tally, in the on-going Ashes, went to 589 runs -- his first since serving a one -year ban for his involvement in the sandpaper-gate scandal, including three tons, at a massive average of 147.25.
