League match: Top shots Tilak, Ravinder hit double centuries

Prince, Ravi, Vaishnav, Kamar, Surya too shine; Suman, Ashish miss tons.

Hyderabad: Promising batsman Thakur Tilak Verma came up with a fine example of what an overnight unbeaten centurion should do in a match — just double it. Ravinder Reddy joined the prodigy by slamming a double century too as the two shared spotlight in the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s top division (three-day) league action on Thursday.

Resuming at his overnight score of 129, Tilak continued to torment the MP Colts bowlers as he smashed them around. The left-handed opener made 203 not out to propel Gemini Friends to 403 for 9. His 370-ball knock contained 26 boundaries and three sixes. Vaishnav Reddy provided the Colts some cheer by scoring 100 not out in 143 balls in their second innings that ended at 176 for 3 in the drawn encounter.

In another match, Ravinder was a rage, belting 35 fours and three sixes in 306 balls as he smacked 219 to take Hyderabad Bottling’s total to 606 against India Cements.

Danny Derek Prince, M. Ravi Kiran, S. K. Kamaruddin and N. Surya Teja were the other performers.

Danny hit 103 not out that included 16 fours and a six as State Bank of India drew with Income Tax, who were rattled by pacer M. Ravi Kiran’s 5 for 90. SBI captain T. Suman was unfortunate to have fallen two runs short of a century. His 84-ball knock contained seven fours and an equal number of sixes.

Andhra Bank’s A. Ashish Reddy was the other unlucky batsman. He was stranded at 98 not out in their drawn match against Deccan Chronicle. Ashish hit 11 fours and four sixes in his 95-ball knock.

In another match, Kamaruddin returned with figures of 5 for 39 as South Central Railway drew with BDL.

Surya Teja was the other centurion of the day. He hit eight boundaries and three sixes in his unbeaten 116 as Jai Hanuman drew with R. Dayanand.
