Mumbai Indians are high on confidence

Rohit said starting the season with a match against arch-rivals CSK would be great.

Mumbai: Ro, Bumz, Fizz, and Polly are a few nicknames in the new Mumbai Indians squad that is out to retain the Indian Premier League (IPL) Trophy as season 11 beckons. Coach Mahela Jayawardene would want nothing but the title for the most successful team in the competition.

Jayawardene is no stranger to his captain Rohit Sharma's striking skills as he had been on the leather hunt in Kolkata when the Indian smashed 264 to crush Sri Lanka in 2014. He lauded Rohit for creating a friendly atmosphere in the squad. Nicknames are a time-tested way to foster unity.

“He has guided a lot of younger guys in the squad. And, he is getting the best out of everybody in the middle. He is the most successful captain in the league because he earns respect,” said Jayawardene at the pre-match press conference here on Thursday.

The 11th edition of the IPL will witness two new changes __ the Decision Review System (DRS) and mid-season transfers. For a two-month league that thrives on fast-paced games, both decisions have the potential to change the course of a match but the MI coach feels otherwise.

“I think DRS and transfer are good. It is a great option for franchises to have mid-season trading. DRS has been there in international cricket and it will help eliminate errors. It gives the umpires a helping hand. A lot of international players know how to handle DRS and it would be a learning experience for youngsters,” added the former Sri Lankan captain.
