Zaheer Khan counts on Carlos Brathwaite to come good
New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils skipper Zaheer Khan is hoping that World T20 final hero Carlos Brathwaite will “bring in the same amount of confidence” to their squad when the Indian Premier League Season Nine gets under way on April 9.
Brathwaite carried the West Indies to a stunning title win, slamming four consecutive sixes off England pacer Ben Stokes in the breathtaking final over on April 3 in Kolkata.
Said Zaheer here as the squad gathered for preparations, “The IPL is all about momentum. Each player’s contribution will be crucial. And after his performance in the T20 World final, Brathwaite is coming in with that kind of confidence. I am hopeful that he will carry forward that confidence in the IPL.” The World T20 saw Ashish Nehra stand out among the younger lot and the 37-year-old carved his place out among the tournament’s most effective bowlers.
Zaheer said he was “happy to see Nehra bowl so well” but was happy with his own decision of calling it quits from international cricket. “Ashish did quite good and even motivated me to do well here. I am happy with my decision (of retirement), and I am looking ahead to working with the young talent. We want to be the true daredevils,” he added.
