Watch: Ravindra Jadeja caps off a brilliant day with 6-wicket haul against Australia

Ravindra Jadeja capped off a brilliant performance, picking up the important wickets of Matt Renshaw, Steve Smith, and Peter Handscomb.

Bengaluru: Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja churned out an excellent performance on Sunday and Monday morning to pick up six Australian wickets.

After the home side experienced another batting collapse to be bowled out for 189 on the first day, India needed their bowlers to step up.

Jadeja, who bowled only 21.4 overs, as compared to Ravichandran Ashwin’s 49, Umesh Yadav’s 24, and Ishant Sharma’s 27, dismissed six of the Australian batsmen. Here are his six wickets.

What was even more captivating about Jadeja’s performance was that he picked up the important wickets of Australia captain Steve Smith, opener Matt Renshaw, and top-order batsman Peter Handscomb.

Renshaw’s wicket in particular, was something that stood out as an example, with regards to what kind of mindset spinners should have while playing in the longer version of the game.

Renshaw, who has otherwise shown a propensity to play patiently on difficult wickets, danced down the track to the left-arm orthodox spinner a couple times, even smacking Jadeja for a six on the first occasion.

However, Jadeja let the 20-year-old have his brief moment in the sun, as he soon fired it down the leg side the moment he saw Renshaw step out of his crease on the third occasion, leaving wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha to complete a smart stumping.

That was not the end of it though. Jadeja capped off an excellent all-round performance in the second innings of the Bengaluru Test, by taking a brilliant catch in the deep, to dismiss Mitchell Starc off Ashwin’s bowling.
