Video: Out or not out? Virat Kohli falls to controversial LBW decision

Indian skipper Virat Kohli was given out LBW in the second innings of the ongoing Test against Australia under controversial circumstances.

Bengaluru: After getting out the last two times due to misjudgement, Indian skipper Virat Kohli got out in the second innings of the ongoing Test against Australia in Bengaluru due to bad luck.

Interestingly, DRS – with which the Indian batsman is struggling – had its own role to play when umpire Nigel Llong gave Kohli out LBW off Josh Hazelwood’s bowling.

The Aussie pacer’s off-cutter crashed into Kohli’s pads for which Long gave the star batsman out, but the decision was made under controversial circumstances as there was a doubt as to whether the ball had hit the bat first. The Indian captain was confident that he had hit the ball before it went on to hit the pads and immediately called for a review.

The replays showed that the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps, but even after watching numerous replays of the dismissal, third umpire Richard Kettleborough couldn’t determine whether ball hit bat or pad first.

Kettleborough couldn’t find "conclusive evidence" that the ball hit the bat first and since the original decision was out, the decision was not overturned, forcing Kohli to walk back to the pavilion.
