Mumbai: The focus might be currently on Twenty20 format with World Cup beginning on March 8 followed by the IPL but for Indian fringe players Irani Cup will serve a last ditch effort this season to impress the selectors in the longer format.

Players like Naman Ojha, Shreyas Iyer, who became the only batsman after VVS Laxman to score 1300 runs in a Ranji Trophy season, Jaydev Unadkat and Karun Nair will be keenly observed, as India may need large pool of players for the grueling season ahead. Ojha, who has already played for India in Tests, will lead RoI.
