Shahid Afridi wants Kashmir issue resolved, tweets for peace

Shahid Afridi faces backlash from Indian Twitter users over his tweet demanding peace in Kashmir.

Mumbai: Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi on Sunday took to Twitter to express his solidarity and support with the region of Kashmir.

Kashmir has long been the main contention point between India and Pakistan and both nations have been involved in numerous wars including that in 1947, 1965, 1971 and 1999 for control over the region. Wars, cross-border terrorism and infiltration have led to loss of numerous lives in both countries.

In his first tweet, Afridi wrote: “Kashmir has been suffering from brutality since past many decades.its high timethis (time this) issue shd (should) be resolved which has taken infinite lives.”

In this second Tweet, Afridi requested to take the pleas of people into consideration, “Kashmir is heaven on earth & we can’t be oblivious to the pleas of the innocent. #iStandWithKashmir #KasmirSolidarityDay”

The tweets did not go down well with Indian Twitterati, who advised Afridi to look into Pakistan than at issues in India.
