Mumbai: Wahab Riaz is all set to follow the footsteps of teammate Mohammad Amir and retire from test cricket in order to have more time for shorter formats. According to reports, the 34-year-old pacer is said to have informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of this decision and is all set to make the announcement official after arriving back from the Canadian T20 league.
His last test match was against Australia in 2018. He has played 27 test matches and scalped 83 wickets. His best bowling figure stands at 5/63 in an innings.
This decision came soon after Amir’s choice to retire from test cricket. Mohammad Amir was severely criticised by former Pakistani players like Ramiz Raja, Shoaib Akhtar and Wasim Akram for taking such a step.
Despite these criticisms, Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur said that he was well aware of Amir’s plan beforehand as they had a discussion about it and that Test cricket was taking a toll on his body. He also said that he accepted his decision and he did what he wanted to do.
