Women’s cricket: Vanitha, Yashika, Shivani splendid
Hyderabad: Riding on Vanitha’s 69-run knock, Karnataka beat Andhra by nine wickets at the Senior Women’s T20 Super League-cum-knockout tournament being played at the Dr Gokaraju Laila Gangaraju ACA Cricket Complex in Mulapadu.
Chasing 97 for a win on Sunday, Karnataka’s Vanitha started the innings on a brisk note. She made the most of the conditions before being dismissed on 69.
Karnataka chased down the target in 11.2 overs. Earlier, Anjali made 34 while Jhansi added 21 to Andhra’s tally as Pratyusha picked two wickets for 12 runs.
In another match, Yashika’s unbeaten 55 helped Baroda beat Jharkhand by four wickets and as many balls to spare. Niharika shone with the ball for Jharkhand as she snared 4/24. Batting first, Jharkhand managed to put up 99 for the loss of nine wickets in their stipulated overs. Shalini emerged pick of the bowlers for Baroda, taking 4-13 while Kesha played second fiddle with 3/21.
In the other match, Bengal beat Uttar Pradesh by 31 runs. Taking first strike, Amita top-scored for Bengal with 30 runs, Rumeli managed 27 while Richa and Pratima added 24 each to Bengal’s total of 129 for 5. Uttar Pradesh’s Muskan top-scored with 44 while Shrayothi took 3/24 and Gouher Sultana claimed 2/19.
In one of the closely contested matches in the tournament, Himachal Pradesh was declared winner against Maharashtra as the match was tied at the end of 20 overs and the scores were level at the end of the super over too. Himachal won the match on the basis of 15 boundaries that they hit in their innings as against Maharashtra’s 13. Shivani top-scored with an unbeaten 50 for Himachal.
