HCA top division three-day league: Jayasuriya and Syed Ahmed top shows
Hyderabad: A. Jayasuriya and Syed Ahmed had a ball of a time on Thursday as they snapped six wickets each for their respective teams in the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s top division three-day league matches played here. Sporting XI’s Syed Ahmed emerged the hero for Income Tax as he took 6 for 117 even as the Taxmen made 433, seven short of their rival’s total. That earned Sporting three crucial points while Income Tax had to be content with just one.
In another match, M. Suresh took a five-wicket haul for South Central Railway Sports Association (SCRSA) to guide them to a comfortable victory against India Cements on the second day itself. Suresh’s fine figures read 12.3-4-30-5. A. Jayasuriya too bowled well (6 for 88) but ended on the losing side. Resuming their innings at the overnight score of 147/3, SCRSA were out for 346. In reply, Cements cracked badly in their second essay to be bundled out for a mere 69 and lose by 145 runs. SCRSA took six points for their triumph while Cements drew a blank in the points column.
In another match, Evergreen drew with Hyderabad Bottling but took three points, courtesy the first innings lead. Batting at No.7, Omer Rizwan Mohammed hit an unbeaten 101 in 173 balls including 11 boundaries and two sixes to guide Evergreen to 295/9 in their second innings to set up a target of 341 runs for the opposition. Bottling was in deep trouble straightaway, courtesy leg-spinner Sukehin Jain who ran through the line-up with figures of 12-1-64-5 to push the rivals on to the brink. However, Bottling escaped defeat by hanging on to their last wicket as they ended with 165 for 9.
It was Sukehin’s first five-wicket haul of the season but he has been in fine form of late, taking three wickets in both the innings in the previous match and four wickets against Railways in the one prior to that. In another match, Andhra Bank’s Amol Shinde snared five wickets (5 for 159) as Deccan Chronicle made 451. Shinde was well-supported by C. Hitesh Yadav who took 3 for 62. At stumps on the second day, the Bankmen were 66/2. In another encounter, AOC rode on Abhishek Sinha’s 5 for 55 as they drew with Cambridge XI to take three points.
