England vs India: Virat Kohli becomes fastest to reach 2000 T20I runs

Both the teams will now travel to Cardiff, where they will play the second T20I on Friday.

Manchester: Team India captain Virat Kohli on Tuesday created history by becoming the fastest batsman to reach 2000 T20I runs. Kohli scored an unbeaten 20 off 22 balls in the first T20I against England at Old Trafford here as India won by eight wickets.

The 29-year-old took just 56 innings to reach the landmark.

The 2000-run club in T20Is is led by New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (2271 runs in 73 innings) and is followed by Brendon McCullum (2140 runs in 71 innings).

Before Kohli, Pakistan’s Shoaiub Malik was the latest entrant to the 200-run family iin T20Is. The 36-year-old got to the landmark in 59 innings.

Kuldeep Yadav claimed his maiden Twenty20 international five-wicket haul as India restricted England to 159-8 at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The left-arm spinner decimated England's top order with three wickets in four balls as he finished with 5-24 following India skipper Virat Kohli's decision to insert England after he won the toss.

England's innings was held together by opener Jos Buttler as he made a 69 off 46 balls before he also succumbed to the impressive Yadav.

The England wicket-keeper's knock was his seventh fifty in T20 internationals and took him past 5,000 runs in all T20 cricket.

England kept the same team which beat Australia by 28 runs in a solitary T20 international following their 5-0 one-day international series whitewash against the same side.

Both the teams will now travel to Cardiff, where they will play the second T20I on Friday.
