Indore: Hosts Kings XI Punjab finished their innings at 174-6 from 20 overs in their IPL match against Mumbai Indians here on Friday.

Chris Gayle (50) was the star of the innings, but since his dismissal, the visitors were wreaking havoc by picking wickets at regular intervals.

KL Rahul was the first to depart as his 88-run stand with Gayle ended when Mayank Markande got the breakthrough.

But, a 34-run partnership between Gayle and Yuvraj Singh got the hosts back, but they suffered a huge blow as the West Indian big-hitter departed.

After Gayle departed, it was the trio of Yuvraj (14), Karun Nair (23) and Axar Patel (13) who followed his footsteps.

However, Marcus Stoinis (29 not out)  was the saviour in the end as the hosts finished their innings with a respectable total.

KXIP 135-5 from 16.5 overs

WICKET! Axar Patel is the next to depart as the hosts have started to collapse all of a sudden.

KXIP 132-4 from 16 overs

WICKET! MI are still in this game as McClenaghan has dismissed Karun Nair for 23!

KXIP 88-2 from 11.4 overs

WICKET! Ben Cutting has got the big wicket of Chris Gayle (50 runs) as Suryakumar Yadav takes a brilliant catch at deep mid-wicket.

KXIP 54-1 from 6.4 overs

WICKET! Mayank Markande finally gets the breakthrough, as he removes KL Rahul for 24.

KXIP 37-0 from 5 overs

Chris Gayle (16 not out) and KL Rahul (20 not out) have got the hosts off to a strong start. At the moment, it seems like the duo is set for a big partnership.

Toss update

Mumbai Indians have won the toss and have elected to field first. One big news from the hosts' camp is that Yuvraj Singh, Marcus Stoinis and Axar Patel have made the playing XI.

For MI, Evin Lewis returns while Kieron Pollard misses out.

Here is the playing XI for both teams:

The Indian Premier League (IPL) action shifts to Holkar Stadium here when Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) host bottom-placed Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday.

KXIP, boosted by marquee man Chris Gayle’s form, will be looking to spoil MI’s title defence plans as Ravichandran Ashwin’s men eye a playoff spot.

While KXIP have won five out of the seven IPL 2018 matches they have played, MI have been in the wrong side of things, winning just two of their eight games.

Once again, MI’s finishing abilities were questioned as they lost to Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 14 runs in their previous encounter.

Both teams share the spoils in the overall head-to-head between them, with both sides having won 10 matches each.

While MI must be buoyed by the form of top-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav, the defending champions would be worried of captain Rohit Sharma’s tournament so far.

The right-handed Mumbai batsman has only scored two half-centuries to his name. Having said that, Rohit, also known as ‘Hitman’, was dismissed for a duck in their last match against RCB.
