A powerful rush' of emotions!

A first person account of watching the RCB-KKR match from the RCB Bold Box at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Monday night.

Ever wondered what it would feel like to watch a cricket match from up in the sky? The newly launched Royal Challengers Bangalore Bold Box is an experience for the boldest and staunchest RCB fans. Well, you have to see it to believe it. Here’s a first hand experience of the pendulous viewing platform from 150 feet above ground that we tried out as RCB took on KKR at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday. It’s not for the faint hearted. So if you’re bold and daring, read on!

Once you enter the stadium, you’re taken to a lounge at the far end and post a quick weight and blood pressure check by a doctor stationed there, you’re given a harness and before you realise you’re up in the air.

The Bold Box can accommodate four spectators and one instructor at a time. During each RCB match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, there will be four Bold Box viewing sessions of 20 minutes each. Although we were up only for a couple of minutes, it was undoubtedly a unique and thrilling experience. Most of the crowd was rooting for home team and it was exciting to hear everyone chanting “RCB, RCB” louder and louder every time. One of the fans with us was a tad intimidated with all the frenzy around. After reaching the desired height, the box gives the fans a 360 degree view of the stadium as well as the city.

The Bold Army is an initiative by Royal Challengers Bangalore to celebrate its fan following who are at the heart of the team’s popularity. The stadium is a site in itself and watching it from that height is a marvel in itself. The RCB Bold Army are the team’s official cheer squad comprising the boldest RCB fans from across the country. Amrit Thomas, chairman for RCB explains, “Considering the love that the fans have for the RCB team, we believe that the Bold Army is a landmark step in bringing fans closer to the sport and help them celebrate the passion for T20 and playing bold. It is an experience money can’t buy and one that can be earned only by the fans who have an unwaveringly bold passion for T20 cricket and the RCB team.”
