The date April 2 will always be known to every Indian cricket fan’s because it was on this very day the Indian team lifted the World Cup during 2011. MS Dhoni hit a massive six to help the Men in Blue win the final against Sri Lanka by six wickets. After winning the match all the Indian cricketers said that they desired to win the World Cup for the India and especially for Sachin Tendulkar, who lifted Indian cricket on his shoulders for several years.

While recalling the special win, the batting legend requested Virat Kohli and his team before the 2019 World Cup. India lifted their second ODI World Cup on April 2, 2011, at the Wankhede Stadium, which, legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar says, is the "best moment" of his cricketing career.

"2011 was the most beautiful moment of my life on the field, there cannot be a greater moment. I was the highest run-getter for the team so my contribution was well worth it, because in the end what matters is that the trophy is sitting in your dressing room, not the opponent's dressing room. That was the best cricketing moment of my life," International Cricket Council quoted Tendulkar as saying.

“World Cup comes after every four years. It’s been eight years since that day (April 2, 2011), so there’s another World Cup coming up. I know that our team hasn’t been announced yet. But whichever team goes, that will be our team. If you see carefully, there are three stars at the top of the BCCI logo on the Indian jersey. Three stars for three World Cups. So let’s make that three into four, that is what I want to see. So let’s move forward with our team and give them full support. All the very best Team India,” said Tendulkar.

India won against Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final of the tournament. Tendulkar finished as the second highest scorer of the tournament. Sri Lanka's opening batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan was the top scorer of the tournament. Sri Lanka scored 274 runs after losing six wickets after choosing to bat first in the 2011 World Cup final. Mahela Jayawardene scripted an impressive knock of 103 not out to help the team to post a decent total.

India started its chase horrendously when they lost both Tendulkar and Sehwag early, however Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni played coolly, and calmly to take the team over the line, only to lift their second World Cup after a gap of 28 years.

Gambhir got out for 97 but MS Dhoni remained 91 not out to take the win the match for India. India would aim to repeat the history in this year’s 2019 World Cup and the team first plays against South Africa on June 5.
