Police tighten up security cover for city IPL games
Hyderabad: Cricket lovers viewing T20 matches of IPL 10 season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal are spared some relief as Police will allow them to carry their mobile phones into the venue unlike in the past.
However, they will not be allowed to carry power banks with them. Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagawat on Monday detailed the security measures for the eight matches including the inaugural ceremony scheduled for April 5 till and the final on May 21.
The Commissioner said as many as 1,800 police personnel from various wings will be deployed at the stadium for round the clock surveillance.
“As many as 250 personnel from security wing, 270 traffic personnel, 700 to maintain law and order, six platoons of armed forces, special teams from OCTOPUS (Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations), special branch, central crime stations will be put in force. Two fire tenders with fire fighting staff will also be deployed at the stadium,” he said.
As many as 88 CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the stadium for round the clock surveillance from a dedicated command control room. Special parties, bomb disposal teams and anti-sabotage teams would be deployed. In addition to this, roof-top police surveillance will be deployed along the routes leading to the stadium to ensure sterility.
Meanwhile, police also prohibited spectators from carrying laptops, cameras, matchboxes, binoculars, batteries, any kind of bags, banners, cigarettes, lighters, coins, helmets, water bottles, any kind of electronic items, metal objects and also pens, into the stadium.
